  • Global solidarity in action

    The 32nd IMF World Congress took place in Gothenburg at the end of May. The financial crisis and a global response from metalworkers to ensure secure jobs for a secure future was the central theme during discussions, resulting in the adoption of a four year Action Programme.

  • The global crisis and restructuring in automotive and metalworking industries

    The auto industry was among the first branches to be hit by the financial crisis taking a heavy toll on workers and their families.

  • “We have to get the results more quickly!”

    Jyrki Tapio Raina (49) was elected as the new IMF General Secretary at the 32nd IMF World Congress in Gothenburg, Sweden in May 2009. During the next four years he will lead one of the oldest Global Union Federations uniting metalworkers all over the world.

International Metalworkers’ Federation (IMF) represents the collective interests of 25 million metalworkers from more than 200 unions in 100 countries. The IMF is a federation of national metalworkers’ unions, a union of unions at the world level. The IMF head office is in Geneva, Switzerland, where worldwide activities are co-ordinated with a network of regional offices.
